What's in a Name?

Is it normal to come up with names for kids who aren't even born yet? For a while now, Steve and I have had names for our children WHO AREN'T EVEN BORN YET! We know what we are going to name our next little boy and our next little girl. Now our chore is to get THEM here!
I had a doctors appointment today and he said all is going well. I do need to work on my diet and exercise (my main downfall) but otherwise, I'm doing great. The thing that surprised me was my weight. Now I mentioned that I don't diet and exercise like I should, but thankfully, I'm losing weight. Not a LOT, mind you, but just enough that I'm not GAINING! :) YAY! My doctor did tell me that if I lose MORE weight I'll be more likely to get pregnant. So here's to my new "holiday" diet!
So tell me, is it normal to come up with names for unborn babies? Is it bad luck? What's your take on it?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....IF you look back in my archives you will find a few psosts that refer to my take on "holiday" diets! Remember the "Easter candy diet"? IMAGINE how fat you COULD be if your favorite holiday foods were available year 'round! HAHAHAHAHA

Anyway..good luck with that! If I see you cheating this season I will remind you!

And...I don't think that it is bad luck to name unborn children...I pick out names I like all of the time..pregnant or not!

I sure as heck HOPE that picking out names for unborn (or unconceived) babies isn't bad luck. I don't think it is! If a name sounds good to you, great! If it sounds good to you AND Steve, even GREATER! Besides, that's one stress you won't have to worry about when the time comes! And believe me, it can be a big stress! It's hard to come up with a name that you can both agree on.

I'm glad your doctor appointment went well. Good luck with your diet, and let's hope you can fend off the invading goodies of the season!

Since I have 2 bosy, my hubby and I have had 2 girl names picked out for forever. I don't know if I'll ever get to use them, but I've got them just in case!

We like to call my belly by the name once we know the gender so it's nice to have the name already. I don't think it's bad luck at all! Just don't tell anyone or the name might get stolen before you use it!

Good luck baby making! ;)

I don't think it is bad luck, just early planning. That is great news from your doctor. Have fun!

I think its perfectly normal to pick out names ahead of time. If I ever have a little girl I have her name picked out, and If I ever have another little boy I have his name picked out. So I think its pefectally normal.

I would that it were so easy in our house! We fought for 10 months over our son's name...and then for the first week after he was born! My husband's heart was finally softened, and we compromised on one of our "I don't despise it" names. Mommy? Where did my name come from? Well, son, we both didn't hate it. Sometimes I say it and think, really? Ok. (P.S. In my defense, some of his ideas were "Blue" and "Lucky.") Yeah, Caleb is a great name, I guess.

If it's weird, I'm right there with you. Already have another girls name picked out. As for a boy, we're still deciding on that one.

I don't think it's bad luck to have a name picked out. I'm not even married or getting close to having kids of my own and I have one name that I decided on our senior year, right after my grandmother passed away. I can totally sympathize with the whole dieting thingy. Even my aunt Judy, who smoked for almost 40 years said that losing weight was much harder than quitting smoking. If you need a "diet buddy" I'm here for you!

*grin* We picked out names before we got married! Mind you, a few have changed in those four years, but our first daughter has exactly the name we picked for our first daughter (okay, I picked when I was 14) and our second has the first name we picked, although we changed the middle name. We have our next three boys' names and two girls' names picked out.

Nothin' wrong with that at all, at all!

Oh yes, we have/had names. I know for sure a girl. The boy-- well, I had one that my SIL loved so much she named the baby she had last spring the exact name. She's a booger nose. Good on losing! I've done so too-- make a pact with me- 20 minutes every day. That's all-- better than zero. :)

We have names picked out too. Nothing wrong with that at all. I need to work on losing weight too. I know it really helps me get pregnant!
